ADT 133- Sample Program

Task:  State name when asked.

Prerequisites:  ADT 1 and S&L 6

Concept:  Having the skill to imitate single words (see prerequisite S&L 6), a logical progression is to use that skill to respond to questions. This particular sample lesson can be helpful if difficulties are encountered in achieving the independent use of single words (S&L 7). Also, from a safety perspective, if lost or in danger this particular skill can be beneficial. One technique that is used in this lesson is a phenomenon that occurs with many students who imitate single words. This strategy relies on the frequently occurring situation where a student at this language level repeats the last word of a series of words presented.

Behavioral Objective: When the student is asked "What is your name?", the student will state his/her first name, in an understandable manner to a 95% accuracy for 20 trials.

Materials: None.

Task Analysis:

1.) Work with the student to imitate his/her first name using the imitative
      abilities he/she possesses (see prerequisite S&L 6).

2.) Add to step 1, the word "name"(in a questioning manner) to the actual
name. Reinforce only the actual name as a response.

3.) Continuing the concept of step 2 put the words "your name" in front of the
actual name. Again reward only the actual name as a response.

4.) Place the complete question, "What is your name?" in front of the name.
      Reward the actual name response.

5.) Continue step 4, articulating only the first sound of the actual name.

6.) Ask only the question, "What is your name?". If the response is the word
"name" or no response, do not react but after 5 seconds just state the name
and reward that imitative response. Continue this activity until only the
question is needed to receive the response of just the student's name.
