Task:
Getting job applications.
Prerequisites:
S&L 11, S&L 14, S&L 20 and S&L 21
Concept:
While some basic speech expression and understanding is needed (see listed prerequisites), the underlying objective is to reduce the stress commonly associated with this action by having successfully practiced the skill. This sample lesson only addresses the request for and obtaining an application. Subsequent skills will be handled in later lessons.
Behavioral Objective: When requested to ask for an application from a store manger or personnel office, the student will go to an appropriate person, request and receive an application for employment to a 90% accuracy for 20 trials.
Materials:
Business locations that have agreed to participate in this exercise and some sample applications.
Task Analysis:
- The instructor should collect a number of sample applications and using a role playing concept practice with the student the statements needed to request an application. Finer aspects such as dress and eye contact should also be emphasized.
- Modify step 1 by taking the student to work sites where the manager or other representatives have agreed to assist in this learning process. In this particular step the instructor should stand with the student and verbally prompt him/her when necessary. Continue this step until verbal prompting is no longer needed.
- Modify step 2 by going to a work site where the manager is unaware of the learning task. Point out the person or office that the student should go to and prompt the student to go independently to the manager and ask for an application. Discuss what happened after each effort.
- Continue step 3, adding the component where the student asks for the manager or the appropriate person and then requests an application.
